HARVEST, AL -
A toddler is in the hospital as state troopers look for the person responsible for sending him there. The Alabama Department of Public Safety says the 4-year-old is a victim of a hit and run in Madison County. State Troopers say the child's name is Jacob Austin.
State Troopers told WHNT NEWS 19 they investigated a crash involving a sports utility vehicle and two-door car in Harvest. It happened a little before 4:00p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Highway 53 and Burwell Road. Troopers say the SUV left the scene without stopping. They believe the SUV was red, and say it may be a Ford Explorer.
Austin was riding in the car as it was struck by the SUV. Troopers say Austin was flown to Huntsville Hospital where he is in critical condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
State troopers say a man was driving the SUV blamed for injuring the child. They believe the SUV involved has heavy front end damage.
