Local DJ Talks About Michael Jackson's Music
Some in the Tennessee Valley are still soaking in the news of Michael Jackson's death. It's making some of them, including DJs, reflect on the singer's life.

WLRH-FM's Bob Labbe says Michael Jackson made a tremendous impact in the world of music. Labbe hosts the local show "Reelin' in the Years" on 89.3 FM. He has worked as a volunteer DJ for almost 20 years.

"This is what we listened to when we grew up. This is what it was all about," said Bob Labbe.

He has more than 15,000 records. Most of them are 45s, and some of them feature Michael Jackson.

"It was so entertaining. He was so talented," added Labbe.

The "King of Pop" first hit the stage with The Jackson 5, at age 11.

"I heard it the very first night, and went, 'I've just got to have that record'," said Labbe.

Labbe is a self-described music lover and record collector.

He has Michael Jackson's original 45 featuring the song "I Want You Back", recorded in 1969.

"Can I borrow it?" asked WHNT NEWS 19 Reporter Venton Blandin.

"No, these things don't go anywhere. They stay right here with me at all times," Labbe replied.

Labbe loves the newer stuff, too. "Thriller" immediately comes to his mind.

"That stuff was so good. It was a sweet music, but had that soul base to it," added Labbe.
