Brian Sutton is the pastor at Cliff Haven Church in Sheffield. On Friday, he and and a men's group left town for a retreat. They returned on Saturday to find their place of worship wiped clean.
"Our heart sank when we saw the broken glass and the large amount of new equipment that was gone," says Sutton.
Sutton estimates that burglars stole around $15,000 worth of property.
"We had a new mixing board that was gone," explains Sutton. "We had Rolland electronic drums that were missing. We lost a bass guitar and an acoustic guitar, a Rolland keyboard, VCR-DVD combo machine, and they even stole our DSL modem."
The thieves also went after three cars in the church parking lot. Investigators with the Sheffield Police Department say they took a GPS system, CD player, speakers, an SM radio receiver, and someone's checkbook.
It was a very disappointing discovery, but Sutton says it won't hinder the church's work.
"This is not a bump in the road, it's a ramp," says Sutton. "We're going to use it to go forward."
Sheffield police say the burglary happened sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday night. A neighbor did spot a white SUV and a dark colored car in the area that night.
