On Monday morning at the Tuscumbia Police Department, the parking space reserved for Chief Tony Logan was empty. Logan is off the job and facing criminal charges.

Saturday afternoon, Florence Police arrested Logan outside of his home on Castleton Road. An eyewitness called the police to report a drunk driver. Police reports show Logan was driving his 1999 Honda CR-V. Florence Police Chief Rick Singleton says Logan was turning right into his driveway, missed, and hit the mailbox. According to Singleton, Logan hit his City of Tuscumbia issued patrol car that was parked in the driveway, over corrected, and ended up across the street in a neighbor's yard. Police estimate Logan's speed at 45 mph.

After his arrest, Tuscumbia City Attorney Tom Heflin says Logan asked to be placed on administrative leave. For now, Tuscumbia Mayor Bill Shoemaker says that status won't change.

"At this point in time, this is an event that did not happen in Tuscumbia," says Shoemaker. "We don't have any factual matter."

Shoemaker says they're not going to move forward with making any decisions regarding logan's position, just yet.

"What I've done is asked our city attorney to stay abreast of the situation and bring it before the council once the charges have been concluded in Florence," explains Shoemaker.

Tuscumbia Deputy Police Chief Terry Sherron is the acting chief until this matter is resolved.

Attorney Tim Case is representing Chief Logan in his criminal case in Florence. Right now, a court date hasn't been set.

Case says he filed a motion on Monday for discovery, which basically means they want to obtain police reports, witness statements, and any other documents the prosecution has. Case says Logan is innocent and plans to ask the court to schedule Logan's case as soon as possible.
