DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — A new memorial in Dothan celebrates the city's Peanut Man.
Byron Trawick sold boiled peanuts in Dothan for the past 13 years. He died in January at the age of 80. His son, Garry Trawick, figures his father served about a billion orders. Many of his customers were tourists headed to and from Florida beaches.
Trawick sold at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Ross Clark Circle, where Friend Bank is located. The bank commissioned a peanut-shaped memorial in his likeness and unveiled it to coincide with the National Peanut Festival in Dothan.
