MONTGOMERY, AL -
Alabama A&M University has been removed from probationary status by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The school was put on probation in December 2008.
Governor Bob Riley issued a statement Wednesday, congratulating Alabama A&M on being removed from probationary status.
"So much progress has been made at A&M since four new trustees were appointed in June," said Gov. Riley. "At the time of their appointment, I encouraged all the trustees to come together and fix problems, especially SACS probation. Their efforts and the outstanding leadership of Dr. Hugine have made today's announcement possible. They helped end the turmoil that had plagued the board of trustees and the University for so long. A&M University is now headed in the right direction and I'm confident it will continue on this course."
