MONTGOMERY—
The whole state is getting in the festive mood. Alabama's official Christmas tree will arrive at the state capitol down in Montgomery Monday morning. The 40-foot tall Cedar will be decorated with thousands of lights for a tree lighting celebration Friday. The celebration will be on the steps of the capitol building at 5:15 on Friday. A parade will follow the tree lighting at 6:00.
"The arrival of the Christmas tree at the Capitol is a welcome sight every year," said Governor Riley. "The tree is a reminder that God's grace and love are all around us and that our state has received many blessings."
The Garden Club of Alabama sponsors the annual Christmas tree lighting celebration.
Two other trees will be decorated and placed inside the capitol. And this year, for the first time ever the two 12 foot Cedars will be planted on the capitol grounds after the holiday season is over.
