Local and federal authorities have arrested a sex offender in DeKalb County. Allen Larue Mitchell, 44, was wanted in Morgan County for failing to register.
DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says the officers with the U.S. Marshal Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force in Huntsville contacted his office on Tuesday, regarding Mitchell. The Marshal Service confirmed Mitchell had been living in Valley Head for several months.
Officers with both agencies went to Mitchell's home on County Road 239. Mitchell wasn't there at first, but arrived a short time later. They arrested him and took him to the DeKalb County Jail.
He is charged with failing to register as a sex offender in Morgan County, and additional charges are pending in DeKalb County for failing to register his address there.
Mitchell was originally convicted in Blount County for second-degree sexual abuse. That conviction was in 1992. The victim was a 12-year-old boy.
