ARAB, AL -
An Arab woman crashed her SUV into a local laundromat Wednesday night. The Laundry Basket is located on Cullman Road in Arab.
The crash happened just before 8pm. Patty Hernandez says she was moving her GMC Yukon from the back parking lot to the front of the building. She said she thought the SUV was in reverse, but it was in drive.
About a third of the vehicle crashed through the concrete block wall.
According to officials, the crash caused a one-and-a-half inch natural gas line to rupture. The building was evacuated, and the fire department shut off the gas supply.
Police also had to stop traffic on Highway 69 and other nearby streets for about 30 minutes until the electricity to the building could be shut off. The electricity had to be shut off from the building so the gas could dissipate.
An elevated air conditioning unit fell on top of the hood of the vehicle. Officials say that made the removal of the SUV from the building a little more complicated.
Luckily, no one was injured.
