ATHENS, AL - Athens Police have charged Shaun Joseph Turner with domestic violence and assault after an incident Monday on Florence Street.

Officer Brandon Colburn responded to a domestic violence call at 1600 Florence Street on Monday afternoon about 2pm. The home belongs to Turner's girlfriend. The woman told police Turner threw a bag of frozen food at her, striking her in the face. He also allegedly swung a machete at her, barely striking her on her right upper arm. The machete caused a scratch and her nose bled from being struck with the bag of frozen food.

Turner appeared, just as Officer Colburn was about to leave. Colburn tried to arrest him, and police say Turner attacked Colburn. Officer Randy Vickers arrived to help Officer Colburn, and police say Turner also attacked him.

Both officers got Turner under control and arrested him. They took him to the Limestone County Jail.

Turner is charged with third-degree domestic violence and two counts of second-degree assault. Turner lives at 503 Welch Drive.
