ATHENS, AL -
Athens Police are investigating a wreck that killed two people. It happened about 11:30am on Highway 31 at Clyde Mabry Drive, in front of the Limestone County Health Department.
Police are still investigating the crash, but say it appears a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was pulling out of Clyde Mabry Drive onto Highway 31. The Malibu pulled in the path of a 2008 Kia Sorento, which was travelling south on Highway 31. The Sorento hit the Malibu on the driver's side. Athens Police say Lorenda Diane Stolaski Smith, 56, was driving the Malibu, and Moira Jane Patterson, 82, was the passenger. Both died at the scene. Both women were from Athens.
The driver of the Sorento, Bethena Hurst Bynum, was taken to Huntsville Hospital by Medflight. Bynum, 44, is from Ardmore.
