Athens Police have arrested a convicted sex offender for violating the community notification act. Telly Savalas Jacobs, 33, moved within 2,000 feet of a school or day care facility.
In January 2008, Jacobs had registered with Athens Police as a convicted sex offender, and listed his address as 939 E. Strain Road. Police arrested him Friday, after determining he moved to 110 Thomas Street in the Quadplex Apartments without giving police notice.
The apartments are within 2,000 feet of Julian Newman Elementary School and First Baptist Preschool.
Jacobs was convicted in1997 of first-degree sexual abuse. The victim was a 16-year-old girl. Jacobs was transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
