Update: Fayetteville Attorney In Custody Following Situation In Office With Son
FAYETTEVILLE, TN - Fayetteville Police say an attorney is in custody following a situation last night at his office, involving his son. John Dickey is being held at a psychiatric facility.

Police Chief Doug Carver said at approximately 8:13pm Tuesday, dispatchers received a cell phone call from Dickey's son, Gilbert. Gilbert was inside his father's office on Main Street, on the west side of the Lincoln County Courthouse square. He said his father was threatening to commit suicide.

Police rushed to the building and found the doors locked. The responding officer called for additional help, and other officers came and set up a perimeter around the office.

Chief Carver said Gilbert Dickey kept his phone on during the ordeal, and told them his father had a pistol and a police scanner. He then got the gun from his father, and asked officers to force their way inside.

Police broke through the front door and found the two. Police say John Dickey tried to fight them off, and they had to forcibly restrain him in order to handcuff him. They arrested him on charges of domestic assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and protection of life and health.

Police took John Dickey to the Lincoln Medical Center for crisis evaluation, and then to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for booking. Sheriff's deputies took him to a psychiatric facility.

Chief Carver said the situation came about because of a domestic dispute between John Dickey and his wife. Carver said police were called to the family's home Monday night because of a disturbance. Tuesday morning, Mrs. Dickey filed for a protection order from her husband. Officers served John Dickey with that order on Tuesday afternoon.

Carver also said two officers were hurt when they broke through the glass to get inside Dickey's office building. They used the butts of their shotguns to break through, and were cut on their hands and arms. Both needed stitches.
