HAZEL GREEN -
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is now involved in the case of the Hazel Green fires, involving a series of car arsons.
The fires happened in the Hazel Green area over the past two weekends.
So far, eleven vehicles have been torched, and the flames even reached two homes.
The A.T.F. is assisting the Madison County Sheriff's Department in the investigation along with the state fire marshal and the county fire marshal.
The problem they're having the tip line hasn't been ringing.
Jimmy Pierce is mad and frustrated about this weekend's events.
Arsonists torched his Dodge truck that he had just got out of the shop and planned to put on his insurance policy.
"My dog woke me up barking, growling. When I came running out here, plus my neighbor was knocking on my back door, and when I came out it was already in flames," said Pierce.
He wants the people responsible for the fire to pay before something really bad happens.
"You can replace your vehicle, you can't replace a life," said Pierce.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department is working hard to catch the person or persons responsible.
The only problem: no one has called in any tips. There could be many reasons why.
"One being they don't want to get involved. Number two afraid that they'll be labeled as a snitch, but you have to understand the people who have this information it could happen to them tonight," said Madison County Investigator Brent Patterson. "It could happen to their mother or grandparents tomorrow."
Here's why it's important to call in your tips: the arsonists are brave. They drove down a dead end road and set two cars on fire.
They set three cars on fire at a house at the end of a neighborhood that also caught the house on fire.
Then Jimmy Pierce's truck is close to the road and his neighbors are close by.
"We're going to catch them. With the resources we had in that room this morning. We got everybody together, we got all of our notes together. Whoever did this we're going to find you," said Investigator Patterson.
Investigator Brent Patterson says they are interviewing students at county and city schools.
They've also stretched their investigation across the Tennessee line, asking for help from Lincoln County authorities.
"We will do whatever it takes to bring it to an end what's going on," said Investigator Patterson.
As of right now, the reward money is $1,000.
Although, the Madison County Sheriff's Department is working on raising the reward money for the arrest and conviction of the arsonists.
If you know anything at all about the Hazel Green fires please give the Madison County Sheriff's Department a call.
