HUNTSVILLE, AL - A Huntsville woman is shelling out $63,500 to have dinner with Sarah Palin. This won't be the first time she has met up with the former Vice Presidential nominee.

Cathy Maples is a businesswoman who believes in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

"Well after Hillary didn't win you know me being a female and being in the business I am and seeing Sarah Palin and just being on the GOP I was just real excited," she said.

Maples is President of R&D Electronics in Huntsville. In July, she took two of her grandsons to Alaska for a vacation. She put in a lot of phone calls to track down Palin. She wanted her grandkids to meet her.

"And I'm a very persistent person. So, I kept on and on and on. Somebody would tell me no. I'd go to someone else," she said.

Just before catching a flight back to Alabama, Maples' dream came true.

"I met her at the airport," Maples told WHNT NEWS 19. "She's a very gracious lady. Was very nice to my grandchildren. It was just awesome," she said.

Her 13-year-old grandson, Camden Brewer, enjoyed meeting Palin.

"She asked me about like if I played any sports and I played basketball. She used to play point guard and everything," he said.

As fate would have it, he's going to Alaska again soon, thanks to his grandmother. She won a private dinner for five with Sarah Palin through a charity auction on eBay.

"Like your heart rushed and everything because you don't know if somebody's going to bid at the last second," he said.

All of the proceeds go to benefit a cycling charity called Ride to Recovery which helps wounded veterans.

"My brother served 20 plus years in the service and I'm real big on protecting our soldiers and doing things for them," she said.

However, her recent gift came with a hefty price tag. Maples outbid her competitor by $100, for a grand total of $63,500.

Maples said she originally didn't plan to spend that much money. She had her bid limit set and figured somebody would beat her and go beyond that. But, that didn't happen.

She's still a happy camper. Maples still has to coordinate with Palin on when and where the dinner will be.

She hopes to have all that nailed down by next week.
