DECATUR, AL - Investigators with the Morgan County Sheriff's Department have arrested a Lawrence County man for allegedly stealing a boat from the Brickyard Marina in Decatur and setting it on fire in Danville.

On Sunday, July 5th, 2009 Deputy David Rawlins was on routine patrol in the southwest area of Morgan County when several young men in a white Dodge truck advised him there was something on fire in the woods in the 1700 block of Danville Road. On his arrival, he found a boat on fire. Witnesses at the scene told Deputy Rawlins that the young men in the Dodge truck had been seen leaving the area of the fire. Deputy Rawlins put out a "BOLO" (Be On the Look Out) for the suspect vehicle with a very detailed description at 5:19 pm. He also paged Danville Volunteer Fire Department to respond to his location.

Deputy Eric Douglass was also on patrol in the southwest area of Morgan County and at 5:22 p.m. he located the suspect vehicle at initiated a traffic stop at Danville Road and Hunter Safety.

Deputies determined through Marine Police that the boat was in fact stolen, as the owner stated it was supposed to be docked at the Brickyard Marina. Investigator Robert "Bob" Newman was called to the scene.

After questioning the occupants of the Dodge truck, Investigator Newman arrested STEVEN BLAKE CURATOLA, 19 for Theft of Property 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree. The other two occupants of the vehicle were questioned and released.

This is an on-going investigation, a cooperative effort between the Marine Police and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. Other arrests and/or additional charges may be forthcoming.
