ELKMONT -
It's time to plan for the holidays. One family with eleven children didn't plan on fire destroying their home just before Thanksgiving.
The Mobley's live on East Clearmont Drive in Elkmont.
Firefighters responded to the blaze just before four p.m. Wednesday.
The family is not worried about being homeless, though, until they can rebuild.
"Everybody got out safe, it can't get any better than that," said father, Rick Mobley.
Rick Mobley got the call Wednesday afternoon that everyone dreads his home was on fire.
Good news, though his nine children who still live at home were safe.
His wife heard the smoke detector upstairs, and saw smoke.
"Since black smoke was coming out, she knew she didn't need to open the door. She came downstairs and grabbed the baby," said Mobley.
The rest of the children just happened to be playing out back.
"I was just relieved that she got all of the kids out. That's one of the fears of having a lot of children, is getting them all out of the house. In the event of a fire. And that's something you never hope you have to deal with," said Mobley.
The Mobley's didn't plan for this to happen, but were prepared.
"Upstairs in the room that's the worst, the one that appears the fire started. I have in that closet one of those chain ladders. That the kids can throw out of the window. Since they weren't in there they didn't need too," said Mobley.
The Mobleys are in good spirits about an event that could get anyone down.
"We know the Lord is going to take care of us. We've got a lot of support. We've had a lot of support from our church. They came out yesterday. It's been overwhelming," said Mobley.
And learning about friendships.
"It's times like this when you know the value of friendship and people," said Mobley.
The Mobley's home school the nine children who still live at home.
They say thankfully their books survived the fire.
The family is in three hotel rooms right now. They're hoping to move to a rental home soon!
They have 11 children, but two now live in Florence.
