Floodwaters Damage Roads, Homes In Several Tennessee Valley Counties
Floodwaters are causing a number of problems around the Tennessee Valley today.  The heavy rains fell late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, while many people were sleeping.  In many cases, they woke up to find their cars and parts of their homes underwater.

Here's a list of where flooding has caused the worst damage:

MORGAN COUNTY

Morgan County Schools are closed today, because buses could not get down several roads.  Most of these roads are in Lacey's Spring, Falkville and Massey.

Superintendent Bob Balch says schools will reopen Thursday, since waters should recede today.

Several roads are under water, including roads that come off Highway 36.  Murphy Road is closed because a creek ran over, leaving lots of water on the road.  Jarrett Road is closed because heavy waters knocked down trees on the road, making it impassable. Burleson Mountain Road is also closed because of the flooding.

In the Union Hill area, Turtle Dove Private Drive caved in as a woman was driving to work this morning. Her car got caught in the road, but she is okay.  However, since it's a private drive, people who live there can't get any city or county help to repair the damage.

Parts of Talucah Road are also closed because of water.

Other roads impacted by the flood in Morgan County:
  • Gum Springs Cut Off Rd. and Gum Springs Rd.
  • Boger Loop
  • East Bird Rd.
  • Thompson Rd.
  • Perkins Wood Rd.
  • Lott Rd.
  • Plainview St.
  • Frankie Smith Rd.
  • Halbrooks Rd.
  • New Cut Rd.
  • Nelson Hollow Rd.
  • Huckaby Bridge Rd.

MADISON COUNTY

In Hampton Cove, several people have water damage in their homes. Flood damage businesses are also taking several calls today.

The Madison County EMA says that Jimmy Fisk Road and Billy D Harbin Road are still closed at this time. The EMA is hoping to reopen them by the end of the work day.

DEKALB COUNTY

Three roads in rural DeKalb County are closed because of floodwaters.  These are County Roads 39, 386 & 635 in Collinsville, Kilpatrick and Mentone. The DeKalb County EMA is hoping these roads will be reopened today as the water recedes.

WHNT NEWS 19 is still working to gather information from areas about flooding problems.  We'll post updates to this story on WHNT.com and 19NewsNow.com throughout the day.

LIMESTONE COUNTY

In Limestone County Cow Ford Road is closed due to standing water. The Limestone County EMA is hopeful it will be reopened by the afternoon.

Wooly Springs Road east of 251 will be closed for at least a day or two. The heavy flooding washed away part of the road making it impassable. The road will need to be repaired, this may take a few days.
