Free Stuff in Athens

ATHENS, AL - If you've been looking for fun stuff to do this summer, but you don't want to break your budget, you're in luck. Every Friday in July, we're going to bring you fun things you and your family can do for free right in our own backyard.

If you've never spent time in the Athens area, take advantage this summer of some fun, free opportunities for you and your family.

The third Friday of each month, stop by 'Singing on the Square'. You can enjoy live entertainment at the Limestone County Courthouse through September. Bring your own lawn chairs and take in the live music from 6:00 to 8:30.

If cars are your thing, you can catch more than 150 antique, classic, and custom cars and trucks as they circle the Athens Courthouse and line the downtown street. That's the first Saturday night of each month through summer from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.

For all you history buffs, visit the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives. The museum houses memorabilia from all the wars in United Stated history. The archives and library are open to the public 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spend your Monday nights at the Elkmont Depot for Elkmont Pickin' and Grinnin'. You can catch live music and great dancing starting at 6 p.m.

Also, mark your calendar for July 18th. That's when volleyball teams from several states converge at Swan Creek Park for the annual volleyball tournament.

Another date you won't want to forget is August 29th for the Crape Myrtle festival. This takes place in Ardmore and offers live entertainment, children's activities, and much more.
