Local Group Works To Help With Long-Term Needs In Haiti
The Haiti Emergency Relief Organization, also known as H.E.R.O., teamed up with local businesses, schools and churches to collect items to be shipped to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

H.E.R.O. Executive Director Simeon Nerelus has been serving the people of Haiti for nine years but he says what is immediately needed in Haiti right now is shelter.

"Now, tents are needed urgently," said Nerelus.

Nerelus also points out that if people donated water purification systems, they would make an immediate and long lasting impact in the country.

"It would fill the need of thirst for all of Haiti," said Nerelus. "If we could get 10,000 or 50,000, that would save so much time and then that equipment would stay in Haiti for the long run to help people."

Nerelus says that his organization is different than other relief groups.

"We're not only relief, we're also for development," said Nerelus.

H.E.R.O. is working on building an infrastructure in the country so that the Haitian people can begin to help themselves. Visit this link for more information on the Haiti Emergency Relief Organization.
