LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL—
Lawrence County sheriff's deputies arrested three people Saturday for partying ... in the wrong way. They say Angela Bradford, Michael Gilliland and Devin Hayes held an open house party in Moulton, where kids as young as twelve were drinking.
Sheriff Gene Mitchell says deputies took more than 20 underage children to the county jail. He says in the past few years, his deputies have broken up several house parties.
"We've had children killed as they left there. We've had it on more than one occasion. But when you have kids that young, bad things about always happen," said the Sheriff.
He says in November of 2008, a Hatton teenager was killed in a wreck, after leaving a house party.
Now, Sheriff Mitchell wants to send a message to people who host underage parties where alcohol is involved.
"If we find them where they got young kids out there at any age and allow them to consume alcohol at any age, and allow them to consume alcohol or drugs, we will charge them and put them in jail," said Sheriff Mitchell.
He urges parents to find out where their children are going and who they will be hanging out with.
He says on Saturday, most of the parents who picked their kids up at the jail were surprised their kids had been at a house party.
