Former legislator and Lauderdale County Commissioner James H. "Goat" Hamilton has died. He was 76.
Hamilton died Sunday after suffering for years with Parkinson's disease and form of dementia.
Hamilton, of Rogersville, served 12 years on the county commission and then served 16 years in the Alabama House of Representatives.
He left the Legislature after deciding not to run for re-election because of health problems in 2002. He was a Democrat from Rogersville.
Friends and relatives described Hamilton as a quiet man who loved to help others, but didn't seek a lot of publicity.
Hamilton was active for years in economic development efforts in Rogersville and was credited with helping bring several industries to the northwest Alabama city.
