Low Ammunition Supply Impacts Valley Gun Owners, Business & Law Enforcement
MADISON - Tennessee Valley gun owners are having a hard time finding ammo for their firearms.

Tim Knox, the owner of Madison Guns, told WHNT NEWS 19 it's getting really tough to keep his ammunition shelves stocked at his store. Although sales are going well for Knox, the gun shop owner believes many people are driven by fear to buy up as much ammunition as they can.

"I've never seen anything this bad. And, it is the fear that the government will regulate the ammunition or do something to that end," he said. Knox just hopes manufacturers will pick up the pace soon. He said he's paying twice as much for ammunition than he did two months ago.

The Huntsville Police Department said it also feels the pinch from the national shortage.

Lieutenant Ken Brooks works with the Huntsville Police Academy. He said normally when it's time to re-order, it could take up to a month to get ammunition for the police department. Now it's taking anywhere from two to three months before a new shipment comes in.

"Fortunately we've experienced this before and so we kind of plan ahead," Brooks said. Lieutenant Brooks said his department always stocks up on extra ammunition, just in case the planned shipment is delayed.
