Michael Winford Williams, 58 (Etowah County Sheriff's Dept.)
ETOWAH COUNTY, AL -
The Etowah County Sheriff's Office has found the body of a missing Boaz man. Sheriff Todd Entrekin says teams found the body of Michael Winford Williams on Thursday morning in a wooded area that they had not previously searched.
They began the expanded search Thursday at 8:00am and found him in a wooded area near Mountainboro.
"While speaking to family and friends, during the course of the investigation, it was decided an expanded search needed to take place," said Chief of Investigations Mike Jones.
At a news conference Thursday, Sheriff Entrekin said Williams' body would be sent to Huntsville for an autopsy to determine how he died. Sheriff Entrekin said it appeared Williams walked to the wooded area, sat next to a tree and died.
Prior to Thursday's discovery, Williams was last seen on November 7 on Thornhill Road in Boaz. A family member reported him missing on November 10.
Several agencies helped in searching for Williams over the course of the last two weeks, including Etowah County Sheriff's Office investigators, reserves and dive team, members of Mountainboro, Sand Valley, Egypt and Ivalee volunteer fire departments, Rainbow City Fire Department, Etowah County Rescue Squad, Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency, Etowah 911, the Rural/Metro Ambulance Service and the American Red Cross.
