Madison's New Police Chief Sworn In

Madison's New Police Chief Sworn In (July 13, 2009)

Madison - The swearing in ceremony as Madison's new Police Chief is just part of Larry Muncey's already busy schedule.

Chief Muncey said before taking oath he's already started tackling the "B" word.

"We're working on the budget, that's our primary objective right now at this time and shortly behind that we have a lot of other issues coming, we'll make them work," he said.

The budget deadline is fast approaching, Muncey plans on having all of the paperwork squared away for the 2010 fiscal budget buy the end of July.

"I'll make suggestions I'm pretty sure, but it's pretty late in the game to make any big changes."

The city of Madison and Huntsville are both growing and that's why Chief Muncey is already looking down the road in hopes of beefing up the police force.

"Huntsville was listed as one of the number one cities so, growth is coming and we have to meet that if not, if we don't keep up with the growth then we won't have enough officers to do their jobs," he said.

And with growth there's comes an increase in crime, but Chief Muncey said Madison is looking good.

"If you take a look at the demographics of Madison, 69% of the population in Madison has a 4 year degree or graduate degree that in itself is going to help reduce crime."
