FAYETTEVILLE, TN -
Many in the Tennessee Valley are still taking a deep breath from Friday's storms. They certainly are in Fayetteville today.
Folks there say heavy winds started knocking things over in their area around 4:00p.m. Friday.
The Flynt family told WHNT NEWS 19 they thought it the storm was part of a tornado.
"It was something. I've never seen a tornado, or been through one in my life. I don't want to go through another one," said Jackie Flynt.
Jackie Flynt and her family have lived in their Fayetteville home for six years. They share the property with a horse, dogs, cats, and a chicken.
All of them saw an unfamiliar sight Friday afternoon.
"It was scary. Very scary. I'd never seen anything like it before in my life. Trees were just falling, and snapping right in the wind. It was awful," added Flynt.
Flynt told WHNT NEWS 19 her daughter and friend were outside in the yard when the EF1 tornado passed through. Strong winds snapped trees, ripped off a roof, and brought in debris from elsewhere.
Sarah Flynt was standing near the family horse getting ready to feed it just before it happened.
"The clouds were moving fast. They were really dark, and I kind of started to get scared at that point," said Sarah Flynt.
Sarah's friend Miaya Gates says she was the one yelling to everyone something was coming. She felt it first.
"I can't really describe it. It was kind of like getting shots everywhere, and it hurt," said Miaya Gates.
Jackie Flynt's mom and dad were out near the other side of the house.
She says she had a hard time getting them into the house and away from the rain and wind.
Sarah Flynt says eventually everyone made it inside to do what they've always heard should be done.
"We got in the hallway. We grabbed a lot of blankets and pillow. We hot in the hallway, put the pillows on hour head, covered up with the blankets, and sat there," added Flynt.
The Flynt family told WHNT NEWS 19 they were all happy everyone made it through the storm unhurt. In another parts of Lincoln County, only one person was reported as being hurt by the tornado.
The National Weather Service says there were no fatalities.
