ATHENS -
A fire shuts down a Wendy's fast food restaurant in Athens.
The fire happened earlier Thursday afternoon towards the end of lunch time at Wendy's off of Highway 72. The restaurants manager said smoke came from underneath a fryer. Everybody managed to get out in time before the fast moving fire ate into the ceiling. Tony Kirk, Athens Fire Prevention Chief said it could be a couple of weeks before the restaurant re-opens.
"We got the call that they had a grease fire in one of the it had spread from the vent into the ceiling, got into the attic space and done pretty extensive damage to the structure," said Kirk.
No injuries were reported.
