LIMESTONE COUNTY - The freezing rain started early Friday morning causing slick roads.

Around 9 a.m., sleet started to fall in Decatur.

Then we hit the roads and drivers cautiously maneuvered the I-65 exit in Elkmont at noon.

Around 12:00 p.m. in Limestone County they're started to get accumulation and the roads were getting slick.

Then we rolled up on a weather-related fender bender on Upper Fort Hampton Road.

Thankfully, no injuries to report just a two-car accident caused by slick roads.

That was not the case on Elkton Road by the rocket on Interstate 65.

"Due to road conditions they came around the curve behind the welcome center on Elkton Road she lost control and went into the fence," said Ardmore Fire Chief Tim Toone.

The woman needed Med Flight because of her condition.

"When she went into the fence a piece of the fencing impaled through the windshield, broke the steering wheel and impaled into her chest and came out of her chest," said Chief Toone.

Ardmore Fire Chief Tim Toone says the weather caused a 40-minute delay for ambulance services.

Then Med Flight couldn't fly her to Huntsville because of the weather.

"It's very serious in situations like this it's just something you have to try to work through with the weather conditions," said Chief Toone.

Emergency crews took the driver to the Athens-Limestone Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
