MADISON, AL -
WHNT NEWS 19 has talked to the families of a couple of soldiers at Fort Hood. We're being told some things are starting to get back to normal.
A soldier based at Fort Hood talked with us just hours after the tragedy hit. The mother of the soldier is now talking. The Army mom is telling us her perspective of the last two days.
Lillian Pedroso is a mother of three. She has two girls and one boy. The girls are captains in the U.S. Army. The oldest is Leila Pedroso-Moorehouse. She is stationed at Fort Hood.
Lillian Pedroso said it was her daughter who told her about the shootings at Fort Hood.
"She texted me. i was sitting right there. She texted me, and said call me," said Lillian Pedroso.
Pedroso talked with her daughter, watched the news, and kept asking questions.
"It was like, is he dead, is there somebody else, are they looking for suspects, or are they holding people for questioning," asked Pedroso.
Pedroso's daughter talked with WHNT NEWS 19 hours after the shooting.
She is now back to work at the same hospital where the accused shooter worked. She says some things are back to normal.
One of the brighter spots for the soldier came during a visit by Former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. All posed for a picture inside the hospital.
The captain's mother is still asking how the shootings happened.
"It was kind of disturbing to have a soldier, and a major at that supposedly do this. He is one who could take care of the soldiers," added Pedroso.
The Army mom is still in disbelief two days later.
"When you have one that stands up and go boom, boom, boom boom, to a soldier it is unsettling," added Pedroso.
Lillian Pedroso told WHNT NEWS 19 when the shootings first happened she was wanting to know more no matter how minor the information was. Now that dust has settled, Pedroso said she is feeling better.
