Due to the probable cases of Swine Flu in Madison, public health officials have closed Madison Elementary Schools until Thursday, May 14.
A determination on further closings impacting all school systems county wide will be made as new information is collected. That determination will be announced at a press conference on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 1:00p.m. at the Huntsville/Madison County Emergency Operations Center. WHNT NEWS 19 will carry that news conference live on WHNT-TV and on WHNT.com.
What About Make-up Days? Many parents are asking about the make-up days for Heritage Elementary and all of the schools in Madison, Huntsville and Madison County. No decision has been made yet about that. We are in constant communication with the school systems. And, as soon as they make a decision about make-up days, we will pass that information along. Madison City Schools Superintendent Dee Fowler tells us he will make the decision about his schools in Madison and Heritage Elementary with guidance from the state. Huntsville City School Spokesman Keith Ward told WHNT NEWS 19 that Huntsville City School students will likely have to make-up the days. But again, no decision has been made.
What About Graduation/Senior Events at Bob Jones High School? We are working to get the latest information about these various events, as school officials decide the best course of action.
This action has prompted the cancellations of many events. In order to provide you with one place to easily get information, WHNT NEWS 19 is keeping a running list of information:
Events Canceled
All Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) sports events canceled until Monday
This includes the state track meets in Troy & Gulf Shores
The SAT test at Huntsville High has been postponed until Saturday, May 16.
All Madison City parks including Dublin Park and Palmer Park are closed until Monday
All Madison County parks that host children's activities (like t-ball games/practices) are closed until Monday
This does not impact Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville
Huntsville Museum of Art has decided to close until Tuesday at 10a.m.
Play Care services for children of parents who are using the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Centers at Jones Valley, Medical Mall and Madison are closed and will reopen on Monday
New Hope Prom scheduled for Saturday postponed, will be re-scheduled (date TBA)
Another town hall meeting at UA Huntsville scheduled for Monday, May 4 will also be postponed. The university says these events will be rescheduled at a date in the near future. The university is also providing this recommendation to all campus groups who may have similar functions.
Performances of "The Wiz" by Butler Theatre Company, scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been postponed

Valley Conservatory recitals scheduled this weekend have been postponed
City of Madison will not hold Municipal Court Friday. This is due to a family situation and is NOT related to the flu Call the court office at (256) 772-5617 to reschedule your court appearance In addition, the monthly community meeting with the mayor scheduled for Friday at 7:00a.m. located at Ivey's Restaurant is postponed The meeting has been rescheduled for Friday, May 8th at 7:00a.m., same location

The Broadway Theater League of Huntsville's performances of 'Happy Days' are still on at the VBC
