Executive Order Bans Federal Employees From Texting & Driving
President Obama is taking a stand against texting while driving. He recently signed an order banning federal employees from texting while driving government-owned, leased or rented vehicles.

Even if you're in a privately owned vehicle on government business, and you want to text, that's banned.

Mike Moore is the safety manager for the U.S. Garrison on Redstone Arsenal. He said this ban impacts thousands of drivers who come to the arsenal, and this ban also applies to federal contractors.

At the end of the day, traffic enforcers will be out looking for people breaking the rules.

"If you're looking down, you cannot track straight as a driver so, you know, they'll be pulled over," he said.

The U.S.Department of Transportation reports that 16 percent of the fatal crashes in 2008 were from people using electronic devices.

Moore said fines could range anywhere from $25 to $50.
