A & M Helps Alumni With Job Placement
HUNTSVILLE - Right now more than 167,000 people across Alabama are without a job.

Unemployment claims are piling up, and the state is doing everything it can to help people through these tough times. Now universities are stepping in trying to help their alumni find jobs.

Room 101 in the Patton Building on Alabama A&M University's campus is where you can learn the basics of landing that first job out of school. Bryant Adams is a junior studying Electrical Engineering on "The Hill".

He says the staff at Career Development Services put in a lot of hard work for their students.

"I do think that the career development [employees] are very helpful on campus because they help transition students from college life and into adulthood," said Adams.

Depending on which line of work it is, some students have job offers before graduating. Carolyn Lewis is the Director for Career Development Services, and says some A&M Alum are calling for assistance.

"We've had a few calls from different ones calling in and the economy is affecting them," said Lewis.

With the current economy, Lewis says even those who did not go to A & M are taking a second look at the services offered here.

"They can take advantage of the workshops that we offer, how to dress for success, interviewing techniques," she said.

This service, however, is not free for everyone. Either way, Bryant Adams feels it's all worth it.

"And they help you get one foot in the door. And you know the rest is up to you, if you're going to make it you're going to make it and if your not you're not of course".

If you didn't graduate from A&M but would like to tap into these job resources it will cost you roughly $35. For graduates of A&M it will be cheaper, for some people it will be as low as $10.

You can call A&M's Career Development services for all the other details and requirements to participate. The number is (256) 372-8182.
