Tennessee Valley Forecast

From WHNT News 19 Chief Meteorologist Jason Simpson - Thursday, February 9, 2012

Showers on Friday

Some Flurries/Snow Showers

Bitterly Cold Air Headed South

Meteorologist Jason Simpson's Forecast:

The sunshine finally broke through the clouds over most of the Tennessee Valley today, but even that could not get temperatures moving much; the high this afternoon in Huntsville was only in the mid-40s. Tomorrow, a strong cold front will be headed toward us, and with a small shift in the wind direction, it will warm up just a touch on Friday afternoon. Expect a high in the lower 50s, but the catch is that rain will be on the way. At this point, the showers look to be fairly light, but a few downpours here and there are certainly a possibility.

Some of the leftover moisture Friday night and Saturday very well could turn into some light snow showers, flurries, or a light mixture at times. We do NOT expect significant accumulations of snow or ice, and travel problems are not likely Friday night or Saturday. It would not be surprising to see a few communities with a good dusting of snow in parts of Giles, Lincoln, and Franklin Counties in Southern Tennessee, and even the high terrain in Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb Counties of Alabama might see just enough to dust the grass and rooftops in spots.

The big story here will be just how cold it gets for the weekend! We are looking at highs only in the upper 30s Saturday with a wind chill in the 20s. On Sunday, the wind will settle down, but a high near 39 will not feel warm at all!
