HUNTSVILLE, AL - A local family continues with preparations to bury a soldier who died earlier this week in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Alan Hall died on Monday, June 1 in a roadside bomb attack.

In the meantime, a fund has been established to help SSG Hall's family. You can make a contribution to the SSG Jeffrey Alan Hall Memorial Fund at any branch of Redstone Federal Credit Union.

The family established this as an educational fund for SSG Hall's 11-month-old daughter, Audrey Faith Hall.

The Army is still making final plans to bring SSG Hall home to Huntsville for burial. WHNT NEWS 19 is working to track down more information on when that will happen. We'll update you when we learn more.

SSG Hall, 28, was an Army Ranger with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, New York.

He and two other soldiers died in Nerkh, Afghanistan in a roadside bomb attack.

All were members of the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Battalion. The 2-87th deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom around January 2009.

SSG Hall's family went to Dover Air Force Base earlier this week to see him return to U.S. soil. Hall is the son of Charles and Annette Hall. He leaves behind a wife, Allison Ramorini Hall, and daughter, Audrey Faith Hall. Hall also had a sister, Emily Hall Pruitt.

"This country has lost a great soldier and son," said a family spokesperson. "The family appreciates the support and interest of his hometown."

Hall attended Grissom High School until his junior year, and then transferred to Huntsville Christian Academy for his senior year.

Hall's awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and Senior Parachutist Badge.

Hall was a graduate of the Ranger Course, Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course and Warrior Leader Course among others.

Hall had two previous deployments to Afghanistan, December 2001 to April 2002 and January 2006 to May 2007.
