Swine Flu Concerns Shut Down Tennessee Valley Schools
HUNTSVILLE - The mayors of Huntsville and Madison held a news conference late Wednesday night to address the action they're taking to address swine flu concerns.

As a precaution, they've decided to close all Huntsville City, Madison City and Madison County schools on Thursday and Friday. All the schools are expected to re-open on Monday, except for Heritage Elementary which will remain closed for 7 days.

Keith Ward, of Huntsville City Schools, said that a decision will be made on Friday whether or not to give the SATs at Huntsville High School on Saturday. He also went on to say that all central office, school administration, custodial, maintenance workers are to report to work as scheduled. All other employees are to stay at home.

The precautions are being taken after State Health Officer Don Williamson reported two probable cases of swine flu at Heritage Elementary school in Madison. At a joint news conference late Wednesday, Huntsville and Madison city leaders said the students are in kindergarten at Heritage Elementary. Dr. Williamson said that the students have been treated as outpatients and are recovering.

Madison County Commission Chairman Mike Gillespie said there is "NO CRISIS." He went on to say that they do NOT expect a crisis in Madison County.

As of right now, Alabama A & M University and Calhoun Community College will be open.
